Researchers seek dogs for chronic renal disease study
LSU investigates statin's power to slow disease

The Louisiana State University (LSU) researchers wants dogs with chronic kidney disease to participate in a yearlong study examining the ability of a specific HMG CoA reductase inhibitor to slow the disease’s progression.
Officials with LSU’s veterinary school are enrolling participants. To refer chronic kidney disease patients for the study, contact Dr. Mark Acierno, assistant professor of companion animal medicine at (225) 578-9600.
The research, funded by the American Kennel Club, is being conducted at the LSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital and in collaboration with Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, Arizona Veterinary Specialists and Veterinary Specialists of South Florida.
Nestle Purina Pet Care Company is supporting the research by providing all participants with its diet for renal failure patients during the study’s duration.
